I have a 500 GB SeaGate FreeAgent Go that's failing.

I get delayed write failures, sometimes it wont mount in XP, in 7 it wants to format, and it failed the SeaTools tests.

My problem is with how to properly package the unit to send it back to SeaGate.

They want me to:

- Enclose each drive in an ESD (electrostatic discharge) bag or in an anti-static plastic shell (SeaShell).
- Secure each unit in 2 inch-thick foam rubber in a corrugated box. Do not use peanuts, bubble wrap or newspaper. If packaging more than one drive, use a separate container for each drive.

Can I get this stuff at the UPS store? 2 inch thick foam rubber in a corrugated box is a little ridiculous lol.
A little too specific

How should I package it?

When I return drives for RMA purposes, I always use, either an old hard drive box, which has the foam inserts already in place, or one of the shells they are talking about. Just put the drive in a antistatic bag, and then in the box, and away you go.

When you order a hard drive off a supplier, do you not keep any of the boxes?

If you were closer, i would ship you a couple of boxes.. Maybe worth asking on the forums, if anyone has a spare they could ship to you?

I would think that a UPS store would have the box and foam. If not then any office supply store like Office Depot, Offiice Max, etc... should have them.

I am, till once a year, when its a major spring clean time. Then all my old mobo boxes, hard drive boxes etc, get burned. Talk of which, its starting to get to the spring clean time in here ;)

call them back they have a advanced rma method. for $20 buck theyll ship you the new one first and then u use the same packaging with return labels provided
