Greetings,

I once again come in need to clarification and or help.

I don't seem to have my OEM Windows XP Home (it was given to me). I am not in need of it. I've only used the CD to do sfc /scannow etc. Never to illegally install windows. I never even had the key because I only wanted the CD for repairs.

Anyways. I may have to go an buy an OEM Windows Home. The only good things is that I can claim this as a business write off.

Question 1). Is there any difference between the OEM CD that I buy at the local computer store versus the windows installed by Dell, HP etc. interms of whether the key on those PC's will work with my OEM CD?

Dang it, I had one more question but I can't remember it now.

I have a client with Legit windows he is back from his missionary work and wants windows re-installed. He can't find the CDs. His box has the license on the side with states OEM.

His PC was custom built pieces bought at the store and assembled. I know the OEM CD I buy will work with his license key. But since I am spending money, will the OEM CD also work with let say Dell, when the partition can't be accessed and the client lost his CDs?

I just don't want to spend money if there are different types of OEM CDs meaning what I buy as OEM and what HP and Dell slap on their PC's

I know I cant download something frrom some torrent site but I don't want to. My buddy gave me his copy of torrent download and let me tell you I smelled viruses as soon as I read the CD.

Thank you once again. If there are grammar error or I dont make sense I apologize I am very tired, its freaking hot and . . . . I am tired :)

OEM is OEM, it will work with any OEM product key. You may have to alter the PID number in the setupp.ini file for the specific manufacturer but it will work. I used my Dell Win XP Home CD to create a compaq/hp oem cd and a sony vaio oem cd. Use a program called nlite to create the cd. I will leave some links at the bottom of this post. Using nlite make sure you enter the OEM product key on the machine in question so there is no trouble with activation. Let me know if you have any questions.

Does anyone know where to find all PID numbers for all manufactures?

For the ones not listed in the links I specified I ended up using Dell's PID number and it worked.

I am familiar with NLite and have used it numerous times except that I have Vista and the CD I want to make with OEM XP with it works. Normally I would experiment but I am in sort of like a rush.

I will the method you posted.
This is the setup.ini from a CD

Operating System
Already Installed on you Computer
Reinstallation CD
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 2

[Pid]
ExtraData=786F687170637175716954806365EF
Pid=76487OEM

I am trying to make a:
XP Home OEM = WXHOEM_EN with any service pack (this is from the site)

Can I use a Pro CD to make a Home CD?

If I can, which PID number do I use? All the number I see are for Dell, HP etc and the CD I would like to make is a regular OEM that you can get from the store when you purchase a new HD.

Dang, why can't people keep their CD's.

The good thing about this one is that NOW I will now how to resolve this in the future without spending unnecessary money.

I am pretty sure you can't convert XP Pro to XP Home, at least I never heard of it being done. As far as trying to make an OEM CD that will work with all models, try the Dell PID. I have used it with Sony, HP, and Compaq without any problem. What's the brand pc you are trying to make an oem cd for?

Thats a new one on me as well, i don't think you can because they have different setups, XP Pro has more things added to it, so by changing a code you can't add the extra software to, i have a PID number that will work on all OEM computers, 82503OEM

But you do create a OEM CD a combination of Pro and Home are you saying that it will downgrade to a OEM home version based on the license key I use? Which in my case the key would be OEM XP Home.

As far as i am aware you need 2 disks, 1 Pro and 1 Home, i cant be sure that you can't combine the two, someone else on this forum might be able to tell you that, the way i see it is if you have a Home OEM disk, how can that change to XP Pro because the Pro has more componants and by change the numbers that does not add the extra componants in XP Pro. so you need 2 seperate disks.
