Office 2007 Key Question

I have a laptop that I did a wipe and re-load Windows on. He has Office 2007 on it and has the key taped to the bottom of the laptop. I go to MS's website to download the program and it asks me for the product key. No problem. But the key is not 25 characters. I'll tell you a little about it.

This is how it reads. (I will change some numbers and letters.)

I have never seen a product key from MS like this. I bet he taped the wrong one to the PC.

You didn't pull the key before the N&P? That is when you grab them. That looks liked a product id and definitely not a key.

Well the only way I Know how to pull the key is Belarc but I used it a few times and the key that it pulled either wasn't complete or wrong for some reason.

RecoverKeys is a nice program. It will even scan drives you attach to a computer so if you have a non-booting drive off a laptop, you can connect it to your work machine, run recoverkeys on it and pull all the info it can find. $29.00 for a single license. Just sayin....

Well ya know, When I reloaded windows, I did it on a different HDD. I still have the old one. I will put it back in and run Belarc and see what I get.

Does this work better than produkey?

RecoverKeys fetches keys for more than 6500 programs, Nirsoft's produkey just fetches Windows OS, Office, Exchange and SQL keys. RecoverKeys provides a technician a more comprehensive report including keys for practically every piece of software installed on a system before a N&P.

Another nice program to use is SiW from https://www.gtopala.com/. They have a lifetime tech license for $99.99 and pulls product keys, passwords, and other items - kind of a cross between Belarc and Produkey. They send out updates 4-6 times a year - mostly when new processors come out. I use it for a site inventory reports. Another nice feature is it checks against windows updates and will tell you what is missing for auditing.

Yeah they changed the password function a few versions back - use to be able to save them. I just now do a print screen and save the image when needed now.
