Online Consent Forms in the UK

Can anyone tell me what the legal situation is with online consent forms? For example, when a customer has work done you have them sign a form making them aware of basic information such as backing up work, warrenty info etc. to cover yourself.

When doing this online (for example, when doing remote support for a new customer) how legally binding is the "tick box to accept our policy" idea? And assuming it is just as acceptable as having that person's signature on a piece of paper how do you then store and archive that policy acknowledgement for access later?

I can't think this is something that would hold up in court if it came to it as it would be so easy to fake.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Not sure myself but we sign plenty of online lists such as Itunes, Ebay etc so I would have thought it would be ok, just my opinion though.

Have something like, by typing your name and clicking on I Agree you agree to our ......

make them type in their name and click on an I Agree button

Thanks guys. Does anyone know the actual legal validity of doing something like this? I mean I can implement this pretty easily but has anyone actually had experience of something like this holding up as evidence that a customer was at fault?

I assume if it was a required part of your support procedure it would be valid.

You are asking the wrong people. The only person you could get this information from is your local Lawyer. Many people here probably know, but the only way to be certain is to call your lawyer.
