A client is wanting to use Outlook for meeting invites. Everything seems to work as expected but he never receives the confirmation or decline of the person replying.
I worked through the first few google results of the problem and everything seems to be set as it should but still no replies.
Any ideas?

The meeting mechanism in Outlook is just emails. If he's able to send responses but not receive them you're digging into spam filters.

I think there are some options in Outlook to configure it to not automatically process those invites, but the invitations themselves are just emails. Sent by the receiving side when they accept or decline.

It's time to do a mail flow search, and see where that mail is vanishing!

So when someone replies yes/no to an invite, nothing happens behind the scenes to update the meeting attendees automatically?

I was under the impression Outlook handled this automatically?

That does happen, but again it's just an email. When someone replies to an invite by pushing the accept button their mail client sends an email informing of that information, which is then processed on the other side.

Which means those invites and responses are subject to spam filtration, and the usual litany of mail delivery issues. You have to dig into that.

The first thing that pops in my head is the request response feature.
In the new calendar invite, select the Response Options under the Attendees option in the drop-down menu.
Make sure the "Request Response," is checked.

Also in Outlook, are the people hitting respond or are they accepting not not hitting anything else?

I also found this on Microsofts website.

By default, Outlook automatically processes meeting and poll responses so you won't see those emails in your inbox. If Outlook doesn't process them automatically, or you want to turn off the automatic processing, use the following steps.

Select File > Options > Mail.

Scroll down to the Tracking section.

,,,

Under Tracking, update the following options:

Check the Delivery receipt confirming the message was delivered to the recipient's email server box and the Read receipt confirming the recipient viewed the message boxes request a delivery receipt and a read receipt, respectively, for all messages you send.

You can choose one of three default behaviors when someone sends you a message with a read receipt:

Always send a read receipt

Never send a read receipt

Ask each time whether to send a read receipt

Check the Automatically process meeting requests and responses to meeting requests and polls box to prevent any meeting and poll responses from showing up in your inbox unless an attendee has responded with a comment. All other requests are processed automatically and the original meeting invite is updated to show tracking information.

If you clear this checkbox, you'll see a message in your inbox for every attendee's response.

Checking the Automatically update original sent item with receipt information will keep track of all read and delivery receipts for items you've sent and allow you to see the status of them by opening the message you sent from your Sent Items folder.

Select the Update tracking information, and then delete responses that don’t contain comments check box to update the original meeting request with the response status and then delete any responses that don't contain comments.

I was hoping you'd see this and reply.

As was I. I have a tendency, when these sorts of queries arise with minimal background, to assume "correct ecosystem" because we are the forum that we are. But, one really can't/shouldn't do that.

Outcomes will be very different indeed depending on what, exactly, is "in the mix."
