Not sure if anyone has seen this or used this, but it looks pretty interesting. Instead of scanning your hard drive for lost files and allowing you to recover them, it finds lost partitions and mounts them so you can access it like any other drive.

It's free for personal use. I'm gonna try it out and see if it is worth buying for the shop. I didn't even catch the price for it yet.

So under what circumstances would this be suitable? At the moment I just use Disk Director to find the partitions and recreate the partition table. I'm trying to think why just mounting would be preferable.

I use Find and Mount, though not very often. It's basically just a quick way to recover data in specific instances.

It's not without some problems. For example, it mounts the partition as read-only. If you're recovering files that have ownership issues, you're out of luck.

Disk Director sounds like it's a more permanent, possibly more time consuming method. Find and Mount is just for super-quick access to lost partitions, nothing more, really.

Maybe not worth the money if you use something else, but for the price I use it enough that I thought it was worth it.

Disk Director just does what Testdisk or various other similar apps do - searches for the partition sectors and enters them into a new MBR. It's really fast but not worth paying for unless you want all the partition moving/sizing stuff it does too...and don't happen to have freeware that does that too
