QNAP NAS Searching

Hi,

I have a customer with a QNAP NAS (2-Bay) for internal backups, and lite file sharing. The problem they are experiencing is that they are either, 1. Unable to search for all associated files containing (Inside, content) a specified keyword, or 2. Search for even the file/folder name (Not content), but taking a considerable amount of time.

All systems are Windows 10, gigabit network, and have changed the indexing service as listed here.
(The one other issue is that Windows 10 does not allow indexing any non-physically attached drive. The "Shared" folder on the NAS is mapped on each computer to a drive letter.)

Any suggestions? I've check on any indexing options on the NAS but only found a plugin "Qsirch" which works ok, but not great as you have to login to the NAS' internal website and download the file from it.

Thanks.

For locations on the NAS that you want to search, you need to add the Network Location to File Explorer which will enable Windows Fast Search.

In File Explorer, Right click on "This PC" and click Add Network Location. Add the location(s) you want to be able to search and Windows will now be able to build indexes.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that and it links fine, however, still in the indexing options, it does not show any listing that it is being indexed. Furthermore I search more about doing so, and found some people using symbolic links to a network drive, (mklink /d [source] [target]) however printing files would not work as the "original" file was not a valid path, resulting in file not found.

I'll keep updating this thread as I find other possible solutions for anyone else experiencing this too.
