Rubber wheels

I recently bought a set of rubber "scooter" wheels for my office chair, something like this. The stock wheels weren't rolling smoothly anymore, and the 4th time I jammed my kneecap into the file drawer handle that day, I angrily searched Amazon and came up with the solution.

Well, let me tell you, if you've never sat in a chair with these things, you should 100% try it. I can move around almost effortlessly now, it feels like such a quality-of-life upgrade that I can't believe I never thought of doing it before. I ordered a set of these for every chair in my place. I can't remember when the last time something so inexpensive made me so happy - haha.

I got some too. My workbench chair had the little locks on each wheel that you push down to keep it from rolling. I never used those and always put them in the unlocked position but one or two would always get partially set making a ratchet clicking sound when you tried to roll. Drove me nuts. So I bought this set.

Wish I'd seen your link sooner, looks the same for 1/2 the price.

@HCHTech that's a great price for those. My favorite chair is over 20 years old but I retired it because it just wouldn't roll easily and I know the feeling of cracking a knee on the file cabinet under my desk. I'll have to check and see if those will fit my old chair and order a set. Thanks for sharing! :)

I've been using the same wooden stool for over 20 years.

It's uncomfortable and slightly wonky, thanks to my less-than-stellar carpentry skills. I shortened the legs to make it lower, but one leg ended up about 3 millimeters shorter than the others.

It has no cushion by design, and the sharp edges on the seat dig into the back of my thighs after a while - but that's exactly what I want. The discomfort keeps me from sitting too long and encourages me to stand instead.

Watch out for speed cameras on that chair!

I just sent 2 sets of those back to Amazon for a refund. Did not like the grout lines on my tile floor.

Soon after that, I broke the arm of my chair and replaced it with this. Rolls better than any chair I have ever had.

Note the METAL arms and I can lift up with the arms since I have no strength in my legs.

That made me cringe just reading it -haha. A wooden seat would kill me these days. A losing round in genetics roulette gave me arthritis in my hips in my 20s, with the addition of bursitis in my 40s. Now that I'm in my 60s, I cannot sit on a wooden chair for more than a couple of minutes without risking a full day of pain & recovery. I would have to use an alternate method to discourage long sitting, maybe a seat pad that shocks you after an hour... :D
