[SOLVED] Suggest a Laptop Around $450-$675

For clients on a super budget, I'll send them to Lenovo Factory Outlet. There's their best chance of getting a "still new" or at least "factor refurbished" nice Thinkpad X, T, or P series. For 50-80% the price of MSRP. Heck even the L series isn't too too bad.

I can't run away from HP laptops fast enough. Lenovo Think series, or Dell Latitude or Precision....or find someone else to punish with your laptop issues.
Oh yes me too!

HP laptops, even their "business grade" units use undersized cooling systems. Have for decades... You put one of those nightmares into the hands of someone that lives in this hot desert, and you've got an unhappy user in two years. It WILL melt, it's just a matter of when.

@BT Computers I've had that conversation many times myself. Dell Small Business, isn't Dell Business. Small Business sells home crap with Windows Pro on it. Yes, they are less expensive... but they're also just as unreliable as their home junk. IF the business is 100% M365, and they're willing to buy spares... I'll even sell those junkets. Because when a unit dies, they can just jump on another one, login and go.

But if they have any sort of actual setup requirements? They're better off paying for that Latitude than they are for the downtime alone waiting for a repair.

And I LOVE places that "don't care" about "downtime costs", because those people pay me, and pay me... and pay me some more! I keep telling them how to NOT pay me... but some customers simply never learn! I enjoy it all the way to the bank.

@cypress That is NOT a business class laptop. Inspiron = home class, Latitude = business class. Be careful though. Dell also sells a "Latitude" laptop that's just a re-branded Inspiron. How do you know it's a home class? The warranty. If it only has a 1 year warranty I don't care what they call it, it's a garbage home class laptop.

Even their 3000 series Latitudes suck, and nowadays if you're going brand new, the 5000 series suck too. No. If you want a real business class Dell, you've got to go with a 7000 or 9000 series Latitude. They didn't used to have a 9000 series so if you go with an off lease refurb the 5000 series are still good.

This is good info to know. Thank you

The cheap(ish) HP laptop she got is working great. She likes it!

If it were me, I would rather have bought a used pro-grade laptop for the money.

For under $400, I could get a Dell Latitude with quad core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1080p display.

Way better build quality. Way better keyboard.

I might sell my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro after it gets repaired or replaced and build a custom gaming PC and buy a used Dell Latitude for the occasional time I actually want to do mobile computing.
