Toshiba laptop password?

Hi all, Ive picked up a PC and a laptop from a customer to fix but I have a problem with the laptop in that I am just getting what seems to be a BIOS password prompt when I boot it up. Ive tried booting off a CD but I dont get to that point. Same if I try F2 to enter setup or F12 to select boot option.

Apparently this laptop is new (Toshiba Satellite A300) but has never been used since being purchased 3 months ago. Anyone know what the factory default password for this laptop might be?

This works definitely. i used a paper clip. I had to shave the paper clip a bit 1st with a knife to get a get contact.

Look further down the page @ the other models. One of them may be the right one for you.

Remove the CMOS BATT and wait for 10-20min then put it back and see. or you can always go to toshiba website download the Bios and flash it!!!
BUT DO THE BIOS FLASH WHEN ALL ELSE FAIL!!! you can make it a really nice paper weight for the customer , if you don't know what your are doing (Not to be offensive)!

I've had to do this on a toshiba. With the computer turned off and the battery out take the cmos battery out and use something metal and tuch the contacts where the cmos battery sits together and it should clear out the bios

Removing the CMOS battery works for any laptop with a BIOS password. I've done this several times in the past. Not sure about why you would want to touch the metal or anything like that.....also not sure of the time frame to have the battery removed.....I've only waited a few seconds and then re-inserted the CMOS battery. Then during boot-up, password is gone.

This is not a bios password, it's a boot-time password. It is a security feature to prevent stolen laptops from being used by anyone. Toshibas in particular are known for storing the bios password on an extra chip on the board which does not depend on the cmos battery to retain it's settings. Many other brands of laptop do this also. The more expensive the model the more likely it is to have a security chip. The methods of resetting the boot password vary from model to model with some requiring return to the manufacturer for reset.

Thankyou. Touching the connectors where the CMOS battery sits shorts it out and resests it. This was done on an IBM laptop, if I remeber right. That is the only thing that would reset it. Same might work on another laptop.

Remove the black pastic tape under the memory module, short the 2 pins of
C837 (next to flat pack IC 32 pins ) by soldering together, refit memory and allow laptop to boot up into windows, password is now removed....undo solder and reassemble......Put that in your pipe Toshiba and smoke it
