Hi guys got a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5907 that dosent want to boot into windows, but Hiren's Mini XP would load up without a problem.

Troubleshoot peformed:

1. Memtest 86+ with over 9 pass 0 errors. Also exchanged memory stick from slots and tested without errors.
2. Tested hard drive and says that is defective, but I can plug it into my PC and read it without error. Also plugged a known good spare hdd and it would do the same.

Tried installing windows on the spare drive and it wont get past the windows loading files screens. I think that it maybe the board that is failing.

Need suggestions on this one.

Have you tried removing the battery and all other peripherals? (wifi, wireless mouse, etc)

Although rare, these things have tripped us all up before.

If you tested the hard drive in the same system and it shows its defective, even if its not, then it could very well be the SATA controller on the Mobo. I am assuming that the drive you swapped out has been tested as good correct? Also, what were the errors you got on the HDD test?

Sounds like the Controller on the board. Hirens uses a a RAM disk so a bad controller wouldn't affect that at all.

Some laptops have a small Cable that actually connects the HD "Connector" to the board. Maybe a bad or dirty connection somewhere?... I'd prepare the customer for bad news though:(
