Guys,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro on the bench at the moment, that POSTS a continuous BEEP.

The laptop had a faulty screen, that was replaced. This is in addition to the BEEP code

I believe the error code is due to memory.

I have so far:
  • Replaced the memory with known good memory.
  • Removed the DVD Drive
  • Removed the hard drive (and tested - all ok)
  • Removed the battery

So far nothing has helped.

The beep comes in just after the Realtek LAN driver is loaded as a boot option.

I'll have a screen shot tomorrow, but in the mean time, any pointers would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Andy

Disconnect the laptop keyboard and boot the machine, see if it goes away.

Is it a repetitive beeping or just one long beeeeeeeep ?

Hi Jimbo :)

It's a repetitive beep. A bit like an AK-47 or an M-16 being fired.

Yeah, quick guess is a keyboard, touchpad or some "event" that for some reason triggers a beep. I don't think it would be a hardware attach/detach like a usb event and I don't think a short on the LAN port would do it, but who knows. So disconnect the keyboard/touchpad/fingerprint/whatever and visually check all ports for obvious damage.

Hadn't thought of a stuck key. The keyboard is a bit dirty. Did try to quickly remove the keyboard, but couldn't find the retaining clips, and I was in a bit of a hurry, so I'll look when I get in tomorrow, and report back.

Update 1:

Removed local keyboard, Boots ok

Removed local keyboard, attached USB keyboard - Boot Failure.

Removed local keyboard, disconnected touchpad, external USB keyboard attached, USB mouse attached - Boots ok

Reattached touchpad, disconnected USB mouse - Boots ok

Disconnected USB keyboard, reattached internal keyboard - Boot Failure.

Conclusion - Bad keyboard.

Just want to say thanks :)

Rep added.
