Hi all.
This is my first post (apart from intro) so I hope I do this right
I have one here that has got me stumped so I'm wondering if anyone could help me with any ideas on this (I did search). A client brought in a Satellite L50-B010 booting to system repair. Here's what i've done...
None of my usual basics worked (restore, repair, reset and lots more) and he had mentioned hardly using it so I looked at installed software and personal data and found nothing much on it.
Called the client to confirm a reinstall. No worries there, nothing on it. Yes! Easy one. Get it done. Next.... ah nnnnup.
Did a fresh install (including format).
On reboot after install I got a blank screen (lit up, no cursor or pointer) where the welcome screen should be with sound and hard disk activity consistent with normal startup (no password).
Rebooted in safe mode and no problems. After doing some research I tried disabling the Intel HD 4000 display adapter and rebooted, screen normal.
Tried the drivers from Toshiba and Intel (later version) but these sent the screen blank again.
Left it disabled for now and installed the rest of the drivers from Toshiba.
There was a BIOS update (current 1.0, new 1.10) so I tried this but the machine rebooted and sat on the Toshiba splash screen with no activity. Waited at least an hour and (nervously) powered it off.
Successfully rebooted (phew) but BIOS was still at 1.0.
I think I need to get this BIOS updated but I am nervous about another attempt. The fact that it was working fine up until now helps me want to believe
that this may not be the issue.
Another symptom that I think might be related is that when I shut it down (fast start enabled or disabled), the shutdown screen goes away but the blank screen appears and the system doesn't power down (all case lights stay on with no HD activity). Left it like this for at least an hour to be sure. Restart works fine, system powers down and boots up again.
Would really appreciate any ideas on this? Thanks.
