Probably asking a lot...but worth a shot.

Does anyone have any software that you use, when transferring user profiles from an old workstation to a new one?

The current method we're using is to use remote desktop, use our administrative profiles to run TransWiz (free) manually, then run transwiz again on the new workstation to restore the backup file made. Ideally, a replacement solution would work the same way and capture IBM Notes files, printers, Office settings etc....

I'd want the ability to script it so we can run the backup at night in a bigger batch...not necessarily force the user to log off (ideally...but if necessary, we can script it so the profile is logged off). Restoring the new machine can be manual...because it doesn't interrupt the user in any way. I have access to the machine via administrative shares...and thought maybe something could use that..

I used Fabs extensively in the past in a different job and have a license for it, but I don't think it's quite up to all I'm asking of this. Oh, and free for government use would be ideal...I can't purchase anything until a new budget is opened up.

I just do it manually from the server...accessing the admin C$ share
\\oldworkstation\C:\Users\<username> and cherry pick only what I want from there..like Docs, Pics, Desktop, Faves, etc
copy to matching location on
\\newworkstation\C:\Users\<username>....

This way I only get the data I need, and I leave the unwanted garbage behind. Ends up being MUCH quicker than using those 3rd party tools...which often bring along garbage you don't want. Or break things like folder direction (a big one!)

There is a more powerful tool that the usual bench tech migration tools, ..by ForensiT
