Remember years ago when I posted about the department of defense being hacked by china and tons of information being stolen concerning classified systems? I recommended the department of defense systems be taken off the internet completely. I also recommended that special D.O.D. systems be manufactured without usb ports. I envisioned an isolated computer network that retains classified top secret information.
Nobody listened. The DOD has recently suffered a loss of the plans for the following:
1) Advanced Patriot missile system.
2) The Navy's Aegis ballistic missile defense systems.
3) The F/A-18 fighter jet.
4) The V-22 Osprey.
5) The Black Hawk helicopter.
6) The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
to...guess who? The Chinese.

I have some simple questions. Why are these plans stored on an internet connected computer system? Why put top secret plans where people on the other side of the globe can sit in chinese military hacking labs and spend 12 hour shifts trying to find ways to get inside?

Why not just take these design plans and put them on an isolated computer system. If you need to disperse them to another site, send a team of military guards in a military protected escort with the hard drives containing the data to the backup storage site.

Anything connected to the internet can and will be hacked. It's a simple simple fact. Where national security is concerned the united states should never allow our weapon system plans to be stored on an internet connected system. It's not just dumb, it's plainly stupid, and totally irresponsible.

Why do they keep repeating the same idiotic scenarios expecting different results? Isn't that the definition of crazy? Risking the national security of the United States is mind boggling to me.

Once a foreign entity has these plans, they don't have to reverse engineer anything - THEY HAVE THE PLANS... Just make something that can broadcast radio signals to turn the devices off, or for example reprogram the target in flight...

Imagine if a war did occurr, what would happen if our blackhawks simply fell out of the sky, and our "patriot" missles simply all pointed toward washington d.c. I'm astounded at the gross misconduct and stupidity of our so called information experts.

Can they not just "SEE" clearly that if you put top secret information on internet connected systems it's only a matter of time before military hackers of other countries will completely own their XXX.

Their reply will most likely be cost... "oh pctek, we simply can't have soldiers escort archives of data to various isolated systems..." Really? Well we're talking about gasoline, vehicle, and some armed soldiers.

What's the cost of all your defenses being flipped off like somebody turning off a light switch.

Do you really think it's safer to put that same data on the internet in a glass case where no m-16's can protect it?

I'm more than certain, in a few months, or a few years, we will once again hear of how the USA has been hacked, via the internet, yet again... I feel we must pray the next time they don't get missle launch codes, or the president's itinerary.

Finally, design plans for such devices do not NEED to be on an internet connected system. They should be at the lab that works on refining the defense device and perfecting it. They do not need to be showcased on the net. "Oh pctek, we are making this part of the missle here, and that part over there... So we just HAVE to have them on the net..."

You would almost think that national security didn't have enough money to have a company that makes a device in one spot. "oh but pctek if we did that and the plant got bombed there'd be no more blackhawks..." Ok Genius, but if that happens the pie is already in the fan, and we might consider acknowledging that in such a scenario we would have already escalated our position to nuclear weapons.

Internet security has more holes in it than a roll of chicken wire. I will once again recommend (jokingly) that we simply enclose the pentagon in a ring of chickenwire.
