Unchecky IS adware?

I know unchecky is pretty popular to try and keep the crap from ever installing. I went to install it today for the first time and my GFI managed AV immediately popped up with a block warning that it is adware. I downloaded it from their site, so I know I got it from a legit location.

Have you all seen anything similar with unchecky? I want to make sure it is safe before deploying this on clients computers.

There is a thread on this, where by we have been allowing unchecky manually.

As Ian stated, it is a false positive. MAV does class it as adware, which is untrue. You are perfectly safe to continue including this software as part of your repair.

If I'm not mistaken, OpenCandy comes into play in the changes made to the HOSTS file. I know Avira blocks the changes when I install Unchecky. I don't know how effective it would be with the changes blocked but I assume perfectly.

Just a heads up. First time I have installed UnChecky. Was installed via an automated process in PatchMyPC. At the time, I hadn't got any anti virus installed as this is a new build and part of this process. Anyways, GFI MAV was installed, and identified that OpenCandy was installed by UnChecky

looking at my Hosts file with hostsman, I found these entries

# These rules were added by the Unchecky program in order to block advertising software modules
0.0.0.0 tracking.opencandy.com.s3.amazonaws.com
0.0.0.0 media.opencandy.com
0.0.0.0 cdn.opencandy.com
0.0.0.0 tracking.opencandy.com
0.0.0.0 api.opencandy.com

Possibly these changes to the hosts file are getting flagged?
