Hello, has anyone got any idea how to fix this Verifying DMI Pool Data message
I attempted a BIOS upgrade from Acers website. I got an error halfway through stating that the motherboard was not set to allow the BIOS upgrade.

The hard drive is not booting just going to Verifying DMI Pool Data

Thanks,
Peter.

Ive seen this with HD problems.

Just for the sake of it, remove the hard drive and disconnect the cd/dvd drive. Then see if you get anywhere.

Also, When I run into problems like this I always take the system down the lowest amount of hardware to boot. Then work from there.

Reset the CMOS or try and reseat the RAM.
You dont have any devices such as usb plugged in or discs in drive? I have done this once or twice and had usb devices connected.

I have already reset the CMOS still the same message I have no USB plugged in or CD in the drive.

What O/S are you using?
How many drives connected/if more than one try with just primary.

As a last resort for myself would to try and repair the master boot record.

Boot into recovery/repair mode with your o/s system disc.

Enter in CMD prompt

  • bootrec.exe /fixboot
  • bootrec.exe /fixmbr
  • bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    reboot

Hello, I'm running Windows XP pro SP3 I have also tried to boot into recovery. It's just taking me back to Verifying DMI Pool Data.

Can you boot from say a Linux live cd? If so maybe use an app to write zeros to the drive and attempt to reinstall windows.

"Verifying DMI Pool Data" is usually the last message you see before the BIOS hands off control to the operating system. It likely has nothing to do with the problem you're experiencing.

You haven't provided any details about what diagnostics you've tried. Testing the hard drive would be a good first step. Also, I've seen computers that won't boot when an SD card is left in the card reader. Remove all USB sticks and media cards and try booting again.

EDIT:

Whoa, there! I don't think we're quite at the "nuke it from orbit" stage, yet. Don't overwrite a drive based on a hunch. Solutions follow from diagnostics.

The BIOS is corrupted, I tried to update the BIOS from Windows I got an update failed with an error the hardware may be write protected when I restarted the computer all I get is a Verifying DMI Pool Data message however I have found a BIOS chip for sale on eBay for my Acer T180 do you think this could fix the problem?

Thanks,
Peter.

Very likely. I think that's a socketed chip so its a pretty easy install. Your BIOS is corrupt and tnats why you are stuck at the DMI.
