Hey all, im new here but I thought I would give my own verdict on advertising material from Vistaprint. Recently bought a new batch a business cards and had quite a shock when they arrived. The design was uploaded quite some time ago and I have already ordered a batch of the cards before. I was happy with the quality so I ordered again using the same saved card template so I didnt have to change anything. This time however I found the cards were slightly faded and seemed to be slightly enlarged.

I think the problem comes from saving a template and returning to it later - maybe its best to upload the new image every time?

Anyway I got onto them and without any hasstle at all they sent a new batch which arrived within a couple of days so I was very happy with that - however the new cards were just the same!

Maybe I'll look else where in the future.

I just realized you are in England... does vistaprint have a facility over there?

We are in the USA -- I have no problem exporting though.

I use Vistaprint for all my printing. Business cards, flyers, banners, car magnets, hats, t-shirts, etc. I always reorder from my existing/saved templates. Never had the problem you're describing.

If what you received isn't correct, you should contact them for a replacement.

I was about to use Vistaprint for business cards, but I found out they use a smaller size business card.

I randomly found this out when I collected several business cards to compare them to each other. Initially I was looking at the type of design, card thickness & paper type local business was using.

This is when I noticed some of the cards I collected were smaller. I pulled all the small cards out and realized that many of them used the free designs from Vistaprint.

After doing some research on the internet I found out that Vistaprint does use a smaller business card. The smaller business card isn't a big deal, but to me It made them seem very cheap and I didn't want my customers to think I'm, cheap.

I ended up going to 123 print to get my business cards and I'm very satisfied with the outcome.

You're right! After reading your comment I compared my card to 9 other random cards that happen to be floating around my desk.

My business card from Vistaprint is exactly 1/16" narrower and 1/16" shorter than all the other cards. I'd never noticed that even when stacked with other cards.

That's not enough to make me quit using them, but is an oddity to be aware of.

Yeah I do like the quality usually and this time to be honest it wasnt toooo bad, but there was a noticable difference. I did get in touch and they did send replacement stock but it was exactly the same. In the end I decided to give up as a bad job and stick with the cards they sent (plus I ended up with twice as many).

As for delivery to the UK, they don't seem to have any issues with it, costs a little extra (understandably) and take a little while longer but I dont mind that.

Im not sure why there is a difference but it does look like I left the new batch in the sun for too long.

I ordered 10 yard signs from VistaPrint though a Groupon deal. I received the signs very quickly but do not like the background color. I contacted them and they are reprinting them on another template for free. Can't beat that.

If your images/graphics use the RGB Color Model you will never get the correct color match when sending it to a commercial printing press. I think just about all commercial printing presses use the CMYK Color Model.

If I remember correctly when I used Photoshop designing my logo it tried to export my logo using RGB Color Model. I had to specifically setup Photoshop to export my image using CMYK.

However, no matter what you do with a discount printing press like vista-print they will never match colors exactly, otherwise their services would be more expensive. This is why some people like paying the extra money at a local printing press, because a local press takes the time to perform Color Proofing.

BINGO!!

Honestly I can't believe I didn't remember this right off the bat. I had the exact same problems with my logo when I first had it made. What I didn't realize at first was that the logo was created using the CMYK color model and I was exporting it to jpg/gif/png using RGB. Every single time the colors came out wrong. Once I realized what I was doing wrong and started exporting using CMYK, the colors come out right the first time, every time.

+1 for that!

I've used Vistaprint for my polo shirts and can't complain. Business cards of the other hand, well I'm not impressed by the quality. I've seen a few from local business owners and they just look cheap. I use a company called Scubaprint, who design and print my cards.

Thanks for all your responses. I will have to have a look just to make sure but I'm pretty sure it's not and rbg file. Also, I haven't changed the file from the original, in fact it's the same file I uploaded for the first batch of cards which came out perfect so I don't think it should be any different this time unless they have changed their printers or something? Anyway cheers for your thoughts and experiences guys :)

We have used Vistaprint for several items in the past. Our most recent order is some full size posters. Received on of them today and I am impressed with the quality and weight of the poster. It's almost banner weight, not your typical rock star poster weight.

Wow wish I'd seen that thread before. I had a fella on Fiverr make me a new 2 sided design that I then edited a little bit. I had it printed at uprinting.com, about $34 for 500, 4/4 cmyk double sided. Still waiting for them to get here, though.

and that's why I need to advertise more -- I am thinking of gettign a banner add on here.... the $29.99/1K is a good price.

I didn't see double-sided in your price, did I miss it or would that be extra? Someone in the podnutz chat often offers 5k for $149, but that's WAY more than I need and WAY more than I want to spend.
