Want to Report Companies for Their Fake Reviews

There are at least two other companies, both franchises, doing this in my area. One is 100% completely obvious doing it on multiple platforms. This really angers me and is likely taking some business away. It's just unethical. How should I proceed?

I could post a review response exposing with screenshots and proof and evidence. I could report to the FTC. I could contact an attorney or cyber investigator. I've read an account where a company got fined $350,000 for their fake reviews. It is illegal.

Do you know how much contacting an attorney or investigator would cost you? Why don't you just focus on your clients and getting 5 start positive reviews from them?

I do not know how much it costs, but I do have a lot of money.

A small fortune! You would be a moron to spend any money on either of those. Like I said focus on your clients and positive reviews.

I already have decent reviews and a decent income. So how much would you guess? 30 reviews within one month of opening is bs.

Your responses are BS and nothing but fluff. I will do something about it and would prefer you to not respond further in this thread. Reporting to FTC and making a review response costs nothing but time.

Personally I don't worry about how other companies choose to run their business as I can't really do anything about it. But I can do something about my business.

There's an old saying that been around for ages. Goes something like this. Grant me serenity to let go of things I can't change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

By the way, in my book, time is money.

It's a no wonder Amazon, Yelp, and whoever is loaded with fake crap. Most people are too stupid to realize it. Just go to a political or major site and again fake bots or paid posters are everywhere but who cares right?

Hold on are you angry because they are leaving fake bad reviews on your company or are you angry they have fake 5 star reviews for their own company?

So your argument to a court would be their fake 5 star reviews of their own company are causing you a hardship thus you should be rewarded?

Just because you can prove they have fake reviews doesn't mean you can prove a correlation between those reviews and a loss of business to your establishment.

But it sounds more like you have come wanting us to agree with you so if that's the case go for it hire an investigator and a lawyer expect to quickly part with tens of thousands of dollars and for the case to proceed extremely slowly through the courts.

It's your money but I can think of better ways to spend money.

It's more about how misleading, unethical, and that's it's just plain out lying that bothers me more than anything else. I'm complaining about their fake 5-star reviews. It is against the law. I don't care about being rewarded but wouldn't turn it down either. I would not spend more than $5,000 which is so tiny to me on something like this. I didn't come here for you to agree. I came here to to see what else I can do.

Fake reviews are everywhere, on all platforms.
I feel your pain.. true, nobody cares and customers are often naive.
I stay hopeful an unexpected correction will come about. Pursuing anything else to correct the situation would make my head explode from the level of ignorance encountered along the way.

I would recommend focusing on your reviews, more specifically what your customers write in the reviews (e.g. try make them focus on the experience with you when writing the review) and perhaps how you respond to the reviews (if you choose to do so). The bots aren't smart enough yet to bring about emotion reflecting a customer's experience when writing the review and the paid writers writing fake reviews are too cheap to think to write that way.

Did you try just reaching out to them directly? Just calmly say you know they are leaving fake reviews, you have proof and not to BS you. You know they’re doing it and it’s going to be a heck of a lot easier if they just stop.

So it is. But what are you really going to do about it? I see this all the time with other businesses around here. Spend the time and money on YOUR business and not trying to shame another. And what Eric said:

Most definitely need to re-think what you are trying to prove to us. I'm sure we've all seen crap like this online, and really, it's just more of an excuse and a driving reason to improve your name and image.

You can't do much with those who don't play by the rules. When it comes to fake reviews, there's another saying worth remembering: What comes around goes around. At some point those fake reviews are going to come back to haunt them.

Focus on your own business and taking good care of your customers. Businesses that resort to paying for fake reviews are likely to disappear soon enough.

Threatening to siccing a lawyer at them isn't going to help. Getting bad press or sullying your own reputation would probably mean your own company will go under.
