Is it just me or do others cannot stand the ridiculous contextual menu of Win11. I cannot stand having to expand more options every time just to get where in one click takes more. A UI should take the user to a direct path like it used to be, why change it when it is just more annoying.

Is there a workaround to this anyone is aware of?

"SHOW MORE" Sod off MS! Just give me what I damn require..grrr.

Yes there is a workaround.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}]

@=""

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32]

@=""

Save it as a .reg and run it

Winaero Tweaker, for those that use it, has a "restore classic context menus" option.

I don't love this Win11 context menu, either, but refuse to change it simply because if I do, I'll forget what the default is. I suffer because I know I'll get questions about it and don't want to be saying, "What are you talking about?," long after I've forgotten that I made a tweak away from default.

Yea that's pretty much why I don't really do any tweaks. I might do that stuff on my home pc, or a couple things on my work pc. I like to keep it a normal as possible so I keep up with what's going on.

My Surface Pro 8 is stock windows 11. My work pc is stock Windows 10. Now that I think about it, I might not have any tweaks out there.

Just in case you want to undo the tweak, save this as a .reg and run it.
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}]

I'm the same. I never use third-party GUI utilities such as Start Menu replacements, or registry tweaks to bring back legacy GUI features. I prefer to get used to the standard GUI to make it easier with other people's PCs.

The only thing I do on a new PC or after a fresh install, for my and customer PCs, is to change search box to icon only, which doesn't change the operation at all (needs to be clicked on to use either way). I first starting doing it because it wastes so much space on the taskbar, now it has the added bonus of removing the dreaded promo graphic that now appears on it.

It's only needed for third-party app integrations, where the developer hasn't updated their app to use the new Windows 11 context menu. Or for legacy Windows features like Send To.

My complaint is that some of the legacy features don't (yet) have Windows 11 equivalents. The Share command still doesn't work with Outlook properly for sending attachments, so More Options>Send To>Email is still needed. For the life of me I can't figure out why they can't sort out such a basic feature, considering they own both the OS and application code in this case.

I was in a bit of a mood yesterday, a bit of a Falling Down day. My gripe is why the heck did the MS UI Devs think that doing this was such a good idea.

Have you ever watched "your typical end user" with a fully expanded context menu, when it's not one of the short ones? That's why I think they did it. It certainly isn't for the sophisticated, long-time user nor for IT professionals.
