Had a customer call me last week. They have an msn.com email account. We have this setup in Outlook using Exchange configuration. It has worked find for the last few years. All of a sudden last week they got the following message when trying to open Outlook.

"outlook cannot log on. verify you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. the microsoft exchange information service in your profile is missing required information. modify your profile to ensure that you are using the correct microsoft exchange information service."

Of course I don't see a way to actually edit the information as you cannot type in the boxes when you open the email profile. So I did the normal thing which is to create a new profile in Outlook.
This worked fine and all the mail eventually downloaded back into Outlook.
Sometime over the weekend we believe the machine rebooted. This morning when she tried to open Outlook she gets the same exact error message.
This tells me that if I create another new profile it will come back again.

Ideas?

First, I'd do an online repair of the office installation, then make a new profile, reboot. The issue shouldn't return.

I have an issue with a client's Outlook 2016 issue as well (they are becoming more frequent). There's is Gmail (Gsuite) and a different error but this seems a likely path to try. I will try this same fix. For the new profile, I assume you are referring to a new Outlook profile, not Win 10 profile.

Yes Outlook profile. I've had many strange issues with Office 2013/2016/2019 over the last year, and all of them when I checked the build numbers weren't fully patched. They blew an update and got stuck somewhere along the line. The online repair re-installs office, gets the most recent build and then things usually cooperate from there.

So if Outlook is having a strange problem I've never seen before, or Google doesn't have a ready mitigation for, online repair, reboot, new outlook profile.

Perfect, thanks! Will give this a try tomorrow.

If you are suddenly having issues logging into Outlook using the sign in feature do the following:

Create DWORD 32bit value in HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity and called it EnableADAL and leave the value at 0

Microsoft provided solution.
