Just installed on my vm machine the full 10, looks pretty smooth and runs very fast. Though apparently Cortano doesn't work in Australia yet as they cant understand 'strayan lol - damn cobbers throw another dingo on the barbie, shrimp took my baby! So waiting for language pack update lol

Yup, after installing it on my VM I installed it on my field laptop. Beautiful stuff. I also installed Startisback to test it out more. Honestly it makes it even better.

I like it as is. It's insanely fast too, and I can customize the start menu. They tried to hide the settings and things in this new interface, but I found that if i search for this pc and control panel and pin them to my start menu then it's very easy to use and very usable.

The slowest thing about my pc now seems to be the few seconds it takes for the motherboard to recognize my ssd and secondary hard drive and to say loading operating system. I don't hardly even see a loading screen, it just flashes for a split second then begins signing me in.

The insider preview initial install was very fast on my old Sony laptop but after the most-recent update yesterday, it's noticeably slower. Haven't used it long enough to see if it picks up again with subsequent updates.

Edit: rolling back to the previous OS couldn't be easier (so long as done within the first month). I am trying it out now so I can bring the fresh Win7 install up-to-date and use until all the required drivers are available for Win10. I had to do a fresh install because my Win7 OS was installed many years ago and couldn't be upgraded to 10 (Windows update was borked and unrepairable). When it's up-to-date, I'll image it and restore the image of Win10 I made just before the rollback. It will be handy to be able to choose to boot Win7 or Win10 via the boot menu.

I have done a clean install of Windows 8.1 setup in Best Performance and ClassicShell and then a clean install of Windows 10 RTM setup in Best Performance on Samsung i5, SSD Laptop and Windows 8.1 is noticeable faster. I was speaking to someone that had Windows 7 i3 SSD, he did a clean install of Windows 10 and found the same.

I have a lenovo T420s i7, it was pretty fast on W7, it seems to be even faster with W10, no issues, I did the upgrade, then wiped it did a clean install

I installed it on an old eePC netbook with an Atom, and it is very usable. Like 8 was faster on old equipment than 7, I think this is better than 8.

i have windows 10 preview running on a 12yr old Aopen dual core amd rig that a customer gave me to recycle. after i'd nuked the hdd, i installed the preview. the system has 1 gig of ram and an ide hdd. it runs ok, slow albeit, but runs fine when its all booted up :)

Running it on a old Core 2 Duo laptop. Probably around 7 years old. Runs just fine. Did an upgrade and then turned around and did a clean install. Runs smooth enough.

Have you looked at Mint 17.2? A Linux machine easier to use and more intuitive than Windows 10. Don't get me wrong, I like Win 10 a lot. But Microsoft continues to irritate the hell out of older desktop users. When I was a kid always tinkering under the hood of my Ford pickup truck my Dad would always try to warn me, "don't fix what ain't broken". Microsoft keeps fixing what ain't broke as far as seasoned citizens who don't like their paradigms changed so frequently. All that programming horsepower and they can't ask a customer if they want to retain an old-fashioned UI and just take the newer bits under the hood?

i think the fact that many users felt that windows 8/8.1 was 'broke' after 7 meant that it needed a new os. i personally loved 8.1 and found it fast and easy to install. i love windows 10, its the same quickness of 8.1 and the security of 7. great o/s all round.

that said, i've never tried linux and might give it ago on my test box - the 12 yr old aopen dual core amd rig.

That's funny my Dad used to always say "If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is."
