Windows Update KB4560960 killed printing on my clients Brother MFC-240C. The obvious answer is to uninstall the update. Problem is it won't uninstall. The uninstall option doesn't appear for it in the GUI and it says it's needed when I try using command line and says it won't uninstall it. Hmmm..... Everyone else seems to not have a problem getting rid of it. She had updated to Win10 V2004 and I had to roll it back to 1903 (1909 was never installed) to even see KB4560960 but it won't uninstall. Brother Inc. is no help for her.

Thoughts?

The printer? No. Windows shows print jobs going through the printer spooler and disappearing.

2004 has a known issue that causes this if the printer is attached via USB, your best bet at this point is probably going to be to update back to 2004 and wait for the patch.

Failing that, get it off USB, it'll print.

If it's not printing and it's over the network, I doubt Windows is the issue at all... I suspect it's just bad timing.

From what I can tell it does not have WiFi direct or Ethernet capabilities. I'm working remote.

So I just looked at brother's site... and you're right it's USB only...

But here's the rub... that hunk of scrap is so old, Windows 8.0 ships with drivers built in. The MOST RECENT drivers are from 2011.

It's a decade old ink jet at least, THROW IT AWAY.

99% certain there's nothing wrong with her desktop, the printer is defective.

...and there's nothing wrong with using an old printer that works well. This whole thing started with it working fine at her place until the latest Win10 update. I couldn't get it to print remotely so she dropped it off with me when she was in town for a meeting. I pulled two different Win10 machines off my shelf (without the latest updates) and both printed fine. Print output was excellent actually. Then back at her place - no joy......

Oh good the fix is in! So update the thing back to 2004 and patch it!

Though it looks like there are updates for older versions you can try first to confirm.

For Windows 10 versions 1909, 1903, 1809, and 1803. It's not for 2004.
She had updated to Win10 V2004
Unless you mean to roll it back to a lower version, apply the patches and then re-up it to 2004?

That's an awful lot of work for a 10 year old printer. Don't know how much @Diggs is charging his client, could be more than the cost of purchasing a new printer even from WalMart.

She's back at 1903 so it's good. I'm assuming it sticks when 2004 installs.

I'll bill her for an hour of remote time and I probably don't have that into it. She was a neighbor before she moved so I'm not too concerned about the money.

Issues like this can be a pain. If I did not look at the bleeping news at leas once a day I would have been as lost as you and already have had the client replace the printer.

That was of course the clue. There are times you can't do that and just have to put the blame on the printer.

I am happy to at least be able to be part of this fix.
