So most of you have used probably windirstat, spacemonger, treesize etc....

Well I just found this and it is so quick.
It only works for NTFS though.
It works by scanning the MFT directly from the disk.

Features:
Finds the files and folders using the most space on your hard drive
Work VERY Fast! We think it's the fastest application of this type in the world!
Finds the top 1000 largest files on your hard drive
Sort the contents of your entire hard drive by folder size and optionally delete files and folders

It's also portable :) Definitely adding it to my site next month. Enjoy.

Regards,

Nice find. I have just ran it on my main machine, and it took all of 30 secs to compile the full list.

Compared to 4-5 mins with windirstat.

I'll be adding this to D7, first thing in the morning. Many thanks for finding and sharing :)

Holy smokes that's fast! Added to D7 as of now. Thanks for that. You should post it in the Repair Tool of the Week Suggestions section.

Do we have any filesystem geeks in the house? Is there any disadvantage to reading the data from the MFT as opposed to scanning the entire filesystem (like WinDirStat and SpaceSniffer)?

WOW thats quick

Up until now I have been a diehard windirstat user, but have always been frustrated with its processing time.

Will definitely be putting this to use.

Thanks :)

Nce find!

Whoa! 13 sec. to index and graph 60GB of files/folders on my c: partition! My only wish would be that it be available as a portable app.

Edit: It is portable. Just copied the Program Files folder to my tools partition, which I sync with my flash drive, and it runs just fine!

It is. Look underneath the download link and you will see the smal zip file called portable....

Excellent find - Wish Id noticed this thread earlier, spend quite a bit last night trimming crap off my drive, this would have saved me hours of trying to avoid ER/House wife recorded !

Very impressive speed and reporting, wish deleting the found junk was as quick!

Well done OP for posting

Great find.

My concern is that it reads from the MFT, and not the disk, so if there is any corruption in the MFT, then it won't see all of the space, or incorrectly report it. How many times have you run a CHKDSK only to find that there is space incorrectly allocated?

As a quick, portable option, I'll add it to D7, but my money is still on SpaceSniffer. You'll be amazed what it can do.... find files less the a certain size, greater than a certain size, older than a certain date. It's a great utility.
