Hi all

New to the forums so first like to say Hi. This web site has been a massive help to me with starting my business.

Now to the issue at hand.

A client of mine currently has an issue with their XP machine not appearing on the network on the Vista machine. The XP machine can access the Vista no problem.

It has been working previously but suddenly stopped.

Both machines can ping each other.

After recreating the workgoup on the XP machine I was able to get it to appear on Vista and restarted the machine 3 times to ensure it remained. However I got an email from the client this morning stating that neither machine could access each other.

After researching online I did locate an article on the microsoft website stating that there was a hotfix released for this issue but uppon clicking the link for it I got a page stating that the hotfix had been removed from the server.

The client has service pack 3 installed for XP.

Anyone had this issue before that may be able to help??

From the Vista machine, if you click on the Start button, go to the Run box, type in \\xpmachinename does it come up?

Is netbios over TCP/IP enabled on both machines?

Both machines were set to default so i set them to Enable netbios over tcp/ip and so far so good.

It was working when i left it last time so hopefuly it stays working this time

Yeah when doing peer to peer networks I always set that manually to "On". Else, it's unreliable. Auto just means it pulls the settings from a DHCP server....and unless you specifically have a Windows Server doing DHCP with that option enabled...it's a guessing game with home grade routers.
