I have an older hp lappy in here that has windows xp tablet pc edition key on the back.

Problem is guy tried to install vista and didnt realize that when he installed it on his other computer that he could not use the key again, so now it needs to go back to xp.

My question is, which oem version of xp do i install in order for the key to work? Home or Pro, or is there another version all together that I just dont have yet.

Thanks for the tips!

As I recall, Windows XP Tablet Edition is the same as Windows XP Pro (like Windows XP Media Center 2005); you can give XP Pro a try, however I take it you won't be using the computer as a tablet because you're going to lose that feature set.

Good luck with that

Well as it turns out the guy does not want to pay me to fix it, since my labor costs would be more than the thing is worth. But I am still curious about this..

I wonder if there is a way to download the tablet edition feature set by iteself?

I wonder if there is a difference between oem and retail version because I can download the tablet edition off of technet

It was only available as OEM.

They never made a retail version of tablet edition. I would love to get my hands on that. I have never run across it but it would be nice to have on hand if I did.

I've got a Fujitsu 1010 tablet which (IIRC) shipped with XP Pro Tablet Edn. recovery disks.
I've never had to use them so I'm not sure if its only suitable for the make/model but I could create an ISO of them and you BYO product key if it's any help.

The Media Center edition discs contained a folder called "CMPNENTS", which included a number of other folders inside it. One is MEDIACTR, one is TABLETPC, and the other I don't remember. But yeah...there might be something there to help you...
