Offering Free Second Opinions

Consumers now days are getting smarter as they learn that it pays to shop around. Many customers will go between many stores looking for the best quality and the best price before they make a purchase. You can take advantage of this by always making your business one that they checkout before they make the major purchase. Heres how.

Simply provide a second opinion to any customer for free. You can advertise this with something like:

Are you sick of getting ripped off?
Bring in a quote for a new computer from any of our competitors and we’ll make sure you aren’t getting ripped off.

This provides a win-win situation for you no matter what happens. Heres why:

  • By advertising this offer you encourage them to shop around first instead of just blindly buying from your competitor
  • It gives you an opportunity to offer them a better deal which you probably will be able to do
  • They bring your competitors advertising to you and let you know which businesses people in your area also consider for computer services. Remember what I said about Keeping an Eye on your Competitors?
  • If you cant beat your competitors price, be honest and tell the customer that your competition have a good deal. This establishes trust with the customer because it shows them that you’ll always tell the truth, even if it may cost you a sale. If they trust you you’ll probably get the next sale or possibly the same one! Even if your prices are higher

You can expand on this theme by trying close the deal by telling them that you can offer them a discount if they buy today. Sometimes this is enough to tilt the scales in your favor if they are having trouble deciding between you and your competitor.

That’s a great idea! However, for those who don’t sell PCs, how could you incorporate that for services? Hmm? Ideas?

  • Bryce W says:

It can be used in almost any business. Throw in a cheap network card when they purchase a router or something.

    That’s great!
