Shares

CodecInstaller is a freeware application that detects what audio and video codecs are installed on a system, analyzes what codecs a certain file needs and suggests you install them. An advanced feature this application has is called the “Filter Mappings Editor” which will let you change the priority and the types of media a filter will process. This helps in solving issues created by filters where the creators made with too high of a priorty or make them try and decode formats they cannot handle perfectly.

This application runs on Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Vista.

To use, extract the zip file and run “CodecInstaller.exe”.

I like the interface better than G-Spot.

Nice little app. I prefer to use ‘ffdshow’ to control all my vidoes. I’ve not come across a video it can’t play and saves faffing around with codec packs.

  • Hank says:

Codec Packs are terrible I see people rave about them but I have never seen one not screw up. I prefer downloading codecs as I need them or just opting to open VLC when WMP won’t work.

Interesting. but i use nigma codec pack.

  • LeBokov says:

I use K-Lite codecs. It includes pretty much all the codecs you would need. I only install this one and try to avoid installing more than one package.
