Bryce Whitty here from Technibble.com and today I am going to share with you a common trap that people looking to start a computer business often fall into.
So I often see technicians who are looking to start a computer or managed service business and they asked a lot of questions on the Technibble forums and Facebook which is great, but some get stuck. They suffer from “paralysis by analysis” and never actually start their own business.
They are trying to prepare for the perfect business, line up “all of their ducks” before they get started. As if they can’t start unless they have the absolute perfect setup. The problem is that they will never get perfect in their eyes, just like how an artists work is never finished.
There is always just one more tool to check out or one more thing to perfect. And thing is most businesses don’t start perfect, they refine them on the way. In fact, if you look into the history of some of the biggest tech names today, many of them were actually really winging it when they first started. You generally won’t know what systems you need to put into place until you encounter them on the fly. Once you get running, you may even find that your “perfect setup” isn’t even appropriate anymore.
I would get a basic tech-stack going and then focus entirely on marketing. The neat automation tools that you use won’t get you more customers, but solid ongoing marketing will. My advice here is to just start, and you can refine it into your perfect business over time.
