2019 Recommended Routers

Personally for home and small business without advanced routing or firewall needs I go with the Ubiquiti USG

For residential installs, we like the Asus RT units. Good bang for the buck. We usually stock the AC1200s and the N66Rs.

I didn't even know Synology made routers - ha.

Consumer grade? It's 100% China junk, buy the cheapest thing you can get, and $300 for China junk is so off my table. I'll get a USG before I do that.

I love them. Unfortunately my Synology just died and I replaced it with a RT-AC68U (was being used as an extender)...and the performance is definitely not what it was. Hoping Synology sends me a new one.

It's OTT for most consumers, but I'm personally a big fan of the Draytek range.
Same here. They're perfect for small businesses. If I still did residential work, I'd probably be recommending one of DrayTek's cheaper models to most customers, although none of the DrayTek range are particularly expensive. Personally I use a Vigor 2860Ln in the office ... Great little router that also takes a SIM card, automatically switching me over to mobile broadband should my main (VDSL) internet connection go down.

With larger homes these days, and more and more devices needing higher performance wireless, go with a system that is expandable via MESH.
