I have a customer laptop with intermitent black and sometimes pink screen. First thing that came to my mind was inverter, but I replace it without luck. What do you guys think could be?

does it do it on ext monitor?

does it do it at boot as well as in windoze?

does it do it when hinge is moved?

have you swapped out panel to eliminate that?

Did you check cable seating?

Were you able to swap out cable with known good unit?

- it would really help when asking for technical assistance to provide a proper synopsis of what you have tried. There are some fundamental bases to cover here and "I swapped out the inverter" doesnt give much indication of your thinking or what has been eliminated as a possible cause so far.

Basic rule of thumb, inverters cause dark screens, bad lcds or ribbon cables cause what you describe, bad gpus can also cause what you describe. That is in general but not always. But you've got to check and try some things suggested above to narrow it down. Checking on an external is one of the first things you should do.

Sorry for the lack of info, wrote that post from iphone before going to bed and actully is not black, is like dark and sometimes i turn into pink.

Here is more info;

A1: It does it at boot and at windows too

A2: Moving hinges make no diference

A3: What you mean with panel?

A4: Yes, unplugged and replugged the cable from both ends.

He means did you change the LCD screen. What does the external display look like? The backlight blub could be blown that would account for it being dark but not pink. I'd say if it displays okay on an external then your looking at a bad LCD or ribbon cable. I'd lean more towards the screen itself since opening and closing the screen doesn't do anything different. Nor have I seen a bum cable that causes the screen to be dark but visible.

Nope I didnt change the screen. On the ext monitor the image looks perfectly normal. Also the pink color start as a mid dark pink and start disolving into normal color.

Don't assume its not the GPU, I had an HP which would work perfectly on external but show strange things on the LCD, a reball of the GPU fixed it.

If you have a spare LCD might be worth trying to connect it up and see.

Won't be the invertor, that simply provides the correct voltage for the back light, if the invertor wasn't working you would get no light at all.
