Hi all

I have a problem with the above laptop and am unable to find any sort of help online. I've posted on the Advent forum but with no help. Anyway, the problem is a client gave me the laptop with a broken power button and nothing at all, no lights, fan, nothing when plugged in. He told me that he had been using it for a while by prodding and poking the button area to get it to work. On closer inspection I found the power button board 'bubble' switch was disintegrated along with the button complete with back top panel. I managed to find both on Ebay 2nd hand and ordered them. I fitted them but found there was still no lights, nothing so I checked the power supply(I know should have checked it at the outset :o ) and found there was no 20vdc out. Ordered a power supply and a jack(bad connection as well) and fitted them all. This is where I am at. I can measure the 20vdc at the motherboard so it is getting through the jack(and not clamping down) to the mb but nothing elsewhere and without the pinouts and voltages I can't see where to go. I suspect that the MB is duff but wondered if there is something I'm missing?

So I have it all stripped down , no cd, no hd, no battery(have tried it with the battery in), no memory(and with memory in), no keyboard. Absolutely dead no lights.

Any help is appreciated.

Well I give up. I've been looking at this most of the day and I thought I would put my ear to the motherboard area(still stripped down) and I was sure I could just hear a little electrical spark/noise so I thought I would turn the light off to see if there was anything. Well the bloody thing just started working :D:confused::(:):eek::cool:

It's fine now, what the hell was that all about?

Could it be because its in tear down mode, that when its put together, something is shorting?

If it still works, when put back together, then well done my friend. If it fails again, then I would seriously think of rma'ing it, and let them have a look at it.

You have spent a lot of time, and money on this, and it could be a empty pit at the end of the day mate. Just my 2p :)

Well done you mate. Perseverance does pay!!. If it was me, I would of diagnosed it, and if it didnt work, I would of sent it off to RMA. I detest stripping down laptops with a passion.

But seriously well done!.
