After a ton of research I still need help for a dental office. (Pics included)

I am in charge of helping a dental office transition from old school X-rays to Digital X-Rays. They currently use Dentrix for their main software.

After the initial consultation I came to the realization that wall mounting anything is basically out of the question. This office was designed years ago with no forethought put into the possibility of a computer being in the room. I also don't want to do any drilling or mounting myself, and I want the outcome to look as if it belongs there and wasn't sloppily thrown together for a quick fix.

Here you can see why wall mounting is almost impossible, there is already equipment in the way and I don't see an option for a mount that wont create headaches and get in the way for the Doc.

So I started looking for medical carts so that he could adjust it to how and where he wanted it and I found something that works almost perfectly.

PROBLEMS:

- The monitor mount only supports up to 12lbs, so an AIO is out of the question (Which would be a PERFECT option)
- Nowhere to realistically mount a laptop
- Adjust-ability of the mounted monitor a priority to show patient details
- Desktop bracket to mount it to the bottom of the spine is an option but that brings with it lots of cables and would reduce the overall sleekness and profile of the product
- Designed to mount a thin client under the keyboard tray but there is no current setup at his office for that
- USB & Windows 7 Pro environment required for X-Ray radiation receivers and program compatibility
- Optical Drive Required
- Wifi Required

Budget

$2000 per station (4 Stations total)

Anyone have ideas for me?

Do they even know how they want to implement going digital? As far as I know Dentrix does not do digital radiography. So they need a separate solution like Dexis. And most Dental offices also add intra-oral digital imaging as well and Dexis does not include that from what I remember so they need another app.

Or they could also switch entirely over to Carestream which involves significant licensing and data conversion costs.

To be honest the cost of the workstation is chump change compared to the other costs if they go with new equipment. You need to sit down and work up a rough number for conversion costs. This could be upwards of 10k/chair or more.

As far as the workstation itself. I just gave a customer a qoute for an imaging setup. They would buy themselves and I set it up

Personally, I'd remove that big blue picture next to the sink and mount an all in one right to the wall. It's really not that big of a deal.

That lenovo looks to be exactly what I am looking for ... a tiny windows capable PC with a VESA mount ... that should fit fine in the Thin client spot.

You are correct about Dentrix and yes they will be licensing with Dexis

Touch isn't something hes interested in so its not a problem

Touch screen is only for this particular situation. The EU does not want to have the KB and mouse hanging out there and is happy to use the touchscreen to look up patients. Due to the maturity and dropping costs of touch screen technology I am mentioning in more situations as an option.

Edit: By the way, Rubbermaid is also in the medical cart business. Not sure if you looked at them.

I can get you some used stations, with core 2 duo computers and monitors for pretty cheap. $400 + Shipping They were used in hospitals as EKG machines. Machines would come wiped, you would just have to set them up. Unless you wanted them refurbished, we could do that too.

I appreciate you mentioning this but he places high priority on the adjustable screen ... he will also be sitting most of the time so the overall height would need to be adjustable (not sure if that one is) ... thanks though!

That looks very much like a standing station

Tell them that most dentists I've visited in the past have had pictures mounted to the ceiling tiles. That would allow them to remove the big blue pic on the wall (if they'd be interested) at least!
