It's been an interesting past 5 years or so. Had my personal ups and downs, and business ups and downs. But all the crap, all the successes, all the "everything" have finally lead to this.....
On June 03 2015 at about noon my family and I will be boarding a plane with 4 one-way tickets to.... Kailua Kona, Hawaii.

We are currently in the process of selling off EVERYTHING we own, save for some important and sentimental things that we are shipping (including one of our vehicles). We've been wanting and planning this for a VERY long time, and now that time has come.

We love the Big Island, to us it is the perfect place to live the remainder of our years. Predictable weather, low tourism, cost of living is comparable really to places we have lived in the past. So that's where we are going to set our new roots. 15 years in Michigan is enough.

A few weeks ago we took one final "main land" vacation and went to the Florida Keys. Just me and wifey, left our kids with my parents so that they can spend some time together before the move. It's funny, being in the Keys, KNOWING that we are moving to Hawaii....

Anyhow. Just wanted to brag a bit I guess. Have sort of kept it quiet to everyone really. I think maybe two people on this forum know (until now) and less than a handful of my neighbors and family.

This is going to be a VERY long 5 weeks.

Well I wish you and your family all the best mate.

Hope the transition goes smoothly for you.

I'm one jealous bugg£r lol.

Best wishes to you and your family. Are you retiring there or plan to work?
I'm planning to work.
My wife is a blogger and has a decent income from it.
I'll still be keeping a handful of my clients here, worked out a deal with another IT company where they "purchased" a bunch of my clients, however I partnered with someone else who will be taking care of onsite interests here for the few that I keep while I still provide remote services.
Once we are all established on the island, I'll decide what I want to do from there.

Congrats to you! You are selling off everything? I like that. Gives you a fresh start to a new chapter in your life. Going from Michigan to Hawaii is quite a change.

My soon-to-be 10 year old is,at this very moment, looking at surf boards online. hahahha

Keeping one vehicle, our snorkeling/diving gear, a handful of summer clothes for each of us, my oldest son's ridiculously expensive collection of Legos, a few sorted toys for the 4 year old, our laptops, some networking hardware (QNAP, Unifi stuff, etc) and the Family Tree stuff that my wife is the keeper of for her family. Aside from that, EVERYTHING is going, and for the most part, it's taken or spoken for already.

I live in Honokaa but work in Kailua Kona. Send me a PM with your contact details and we can talk. Would be cool to meet someone from these boards!

You won't enjoy it.

You will hate it.

Send me the tickets, deeds etc., and I'll suffer it on your behalf.

No, no... Don't thank me, it's the least I can do.

I hope you die a miserable lingering death from some hideous tropical disease. *oh geez, did I say that aloud*
LOL

It is fantastic that you are able to do this. I would love to be able to just pack up and move away like that. Not sure I would pick Hawaii but I would love to live somewhere other then Midland TX. Hope everything goes wonderful for you and your family.

You, my Loiner friend, are welcome to visit me for a round of pudding wrestling anytime!
