Am I about to overpay for phone service?

All GV incoming calls are transcribed into text and emailed or text'd (or both) to you within seconds. Many times I don't accept my GV on my cell phone when driving but I can read all my phone traffic at the next stop. This feature alone is so powerful I wouldn't go with a another service that didn't feature it. From a business standpoint it's almost priceless. You have a printed record of every phone message every customer has ever left you. That's pretty incredible really.

I have GV and have had it since its inception back in 2009 back when I had my skateboard shop (well, it was my kids - but daddy owned it :D) until my kids grew out of it :(.

I digress! Anyway, I have a business phone line from my cable company that I pay $40/mo for and coupled with GV to my cell phone (tip: add a contact to your cell phone and name it your business name, that way when it rings, you know its for your business) for when I am mobile. I love my setup and it works very well.

That is a little concerning. I'm under the impression however, that as a G-suite customer I will have access to 24/7 phone and live chat support. I'm pretty sure that applies to voice as well unless anyone knows something I don't.

There is a document that says what all they support, typically it's just just the features they advertise with GSuite.

I have been a partner/reseller of Ring Central for almost 2 years. There are many cheap VOIP companies out there but Ring Central is top rated and by far has the best features and functions of any VOIP provider out there. They own their own software platform where a lot of others just resell someone elses and are limited with adding new features. I have looked at over 20+ VOIP providers over the past few years and still feel that Ring Central is the best. They aren't the cheapest and yes when you go to 2 users and do a contract it will drop the price. They also offer yearly prepayment option to save even more. Their iPhone mobile app is by far the best along with their PC based app.

If you or anyone else has questions or would like to get the service for their business reach out to me and I will get you the best deal possible!

VoIP.ms and CallCentric is what I use. Both offer many of the same features as RingCentral. CallCentric has no phone support, only online support tickets. VoIP.ms I've never had to contact support though. I only use them as a backup.

I've been with Google Voice for over 5 years now. I've had a problem once and it lasted for a few hours. There wasn't much that I could do but sit and wait for it to be resolved. I did change my number about a year after I started my business. I just kept the old number and paid $20 or so to add a second number. The initial number is still active, but it is almost all spam calls now. I still have a few clients that call it on occasion, probably do to old business cards floating around, but I try to get them to update their records with my new number. Google Voice rings my phone and my wife's simultaneously. She grabs it if I'm on call. I don't see a reason why I would ever use anything else.

Question about RingCentral. How does it handle SMS? With Google Voice I would get text messages in hangouts just like I would on my cellphone. Phone.com has an app but I found out after switching that the app is not push driven. The only way I know I have a text is to open the app at random. It also can email the text message so I have a rule on my phone's email app(Nine) to alert me when I get a text email. I then can open the app.

Does RC offer true text support? An app that is push driven and will work like a text messaging app?

A Facebook forum pointed out this today. https://productforums.google.com/fo...csearchin/voice/google$20voice$20down$20today

Seems it was down for a lot of people today. And remember there is NO ONE you can call at Google about such things.
Luckily it occurred after hours for me. Since I'm still trying to get my first few clients I'm going to stick with GV for now, but it will probably be a better phone service and repairshopr for my first couple monthly investments. Right now I'm trying to at least have my insurance paid which isn't cheap even for a new business in RI. Gotta get serious about advertising.

Yes, the text feature is built into the ring central app. It also support multimedia messages.

Yes, but does it PUSH the SMS messages to the phone? The phone.com app is NOT push driven so I have to open the app and check to see if I have received a text or not. Which is obviously kind of pointless for a texting application.

The ring central app will notify you when receiving a text. It doesn't have to be running.

I'm not sure why so many still pay that kind of money for just a phone line to run another phone into. MagicJack, NetTalk and others give you that phone line for $20-$40/year not per month. So many people pay so much for a land line these days when it's not really needed anymore. I can understand if there isn't a solid Internet connection but all of us here rely on a good/great net connection and adding an ATA device is quick, easy and inexpensive.

Yes, that is very true. But what they dont give you is your number in the phonebook (yes, they are still phonebooks where I live and I get quite a few clients finding me in the yellow pages) and they dont list you on YP.com either. Also, I may pay $40/mo, but I can write all that off during tax season.

Nope. It's great. The ATA has a truly unlisted number. You would use your GV number for all advertising and everything public facing. That's how you get your spam control.

It all depends what you're looking for. If you are comfortable enough managing your own PBX box then something like voip.ms would probably most cost effective. For any canadian users out there, it's also worth checking unlimitel as well.

I have google voice for years. In my business card I have both, my Tmobile # and my Google Voice number.
I also like the fact that when I am in the shop or I have a laptop on me, I text back in forth with my customers using my computer, not my phone.
I can text pictures saved in my laptop/dropbox/google drive/google photos using either a computer or phone.
In the office I have an OBI200 ( little box that sells for $47 at Amazon, and that pretty much works like magic jack, except that the number that you will assign to it is your google voice number) so no need to pay anything to have an office cordless phone ring in my office. The Obi200 also handles faxing, in case you ever need to do that
When you have a missed call, you can setup google voice so you get an email on the gmail account linked to the Gv, so you know to call back

Thanks for this! I never knew about the OBI200, and I have been looking for a solution to integrate my Google Voice # with analog phones in the shop. This is perfect!
