I was sitting in with a client yesterday who is a home based business and the webinar we were watching was an Amazon demo on Amazon Workspaces. There are plenty of videos on Youtube and this one will shortly be on there. I was really impressed with the demo and my client is almost certainly going to go with this solution. Obviously one will still need a computer to log on to the workspace and a client will install locally but I can see less work being needed as all the software can run in the workspace, Office etc. This fits in with Active Directory as well as single end users. It's a bit like the old thin client in a way. Has anyone got any views on this? Does anyone have clients that have moved over to this solution? It may be that there will be more work as people move away totally from offices to fully working from home. I've been out of the business environment for a few years so maybe it's already out there.

This model is fine, until your broadband goes down ;) Also a lot of my clients don't trust the 'cloud'.

I can see a lot of business going down this route though, it will solve many problems and will mean they can scrap IT departments etc. Another reason I want to exist the business in the medium to long term.

the last company i worked at, an IT company, started moving into telecommuting, i would have myself except i was responsible for a bunch of dodgy test boxes. one day, seemingly out of the blue, the new boss said no more, you must be in the office at least 8 hours a day, you can work longer if you want, for free of course. so it turned into a work to rule workplace. i've seen similar things in other companies too. it seems the telecommuting experiment is regarded as a failure.
