Any other disk repair software out there other than spinrite and hdd regen?

I have tried spinrite v6 and i find hdd regen too slow is there anything else out there?

spinrite seems too slow real disk repair software should not hammer away at bad sectors for hours.

Hdd regen even though its great at times runs slow taking up to 3 days on large drives thats too long.

In the Spinrite options you can set the number of times Spinrite will try and read a sector before giving up. By default it's tries 200 times I think. You could set it for 3 or so which would speed up the scanning considerabley. You may not recover as much data though.

GNU DDRescue sounds like it would help if you want to recover one drive to another drive.

HDD Guru's MHDD has repair capabilities. (How did your testing go Galdorf?)

Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier may also be useful to find all the parts of the files on the failing hard drive and put them together another drive.

I was looking for something more professional around the $4000 range spinrite seem more like hype the amount of money i spent on it plus the amount of times it actually recovered drive was very low.

Hdd regen nice program works almost all the time very high success rate but very slow.

MHDD - works ok it's fast but limited success does not do everything i need it to do.

Guess ill have to look into a Ninja the clone speed is amazing and with extra upgrades ill get alot of use out of it.

have a customers driver data is already backed up:

seagate 500 gb sata hd

1) seatools disk from seagate newest version shows no bad sectors run twice
2) HDD regen (scan only) newest version shows there is 1 bad sector in middle
3) spinrite shows no errors
4) chkdsk /r says there is 1 bad sector


now who to believe? some software says there is a bad sector other software says there is not.

I retested the hd under the mfg drive test program twice it shows no errors and it did not trip smart?.

I did a clone it shows an error in same spot that HDD regen scan showed scanned drive using spinrite again it shows no errors what a piece of garbage.

SO i guess i will go with what ever hdd regen scan shows i can't trust mfg testing tools or spinrite which is getting thrown in closet.

Like Rusty said. Maybe chkdsk or another app flagged the sector for non-use and some apps see it and some dont.

My understanding was that after chkdsk /r runs it would mark it as bad. Then windows know not to use that stop while saving.

So maybe some apps not that a sector has been flags as bad and wont show it while others show it even if its flags as bad.

Questions like these make me want to call the manufacture of the app and ask them.

I am using acronics to do that.

but I must say that manufacturer's tools are the best option for that.
just search for it.
