Replaced the DC Jack on an Acer gaming laptop but still getting intermittent connection from the DC adapter.
the adapter is putting out a solid 19v and our shop charger seems to hold a constant connection when we try that.

so I assume the "barrel" inside the DC adapter is just a bit loose.
Normally I would just tell the customer to replace it with a £20 charger but this is a 330w PSU so not exactly cheap, especially with a DC Jack replacement as well.

so is there any trick to tighten up this dc plug so that it makes a solid connection all the time ?
should mention that its the pin in the middle of the DC Jack type, NOT pin in the middle of the DC Plug type.

I don't know any tricks to tighten it up. But if it's a standard barrel connector, what comes to mind is, there are several different sizes that have the same OD but different ID. If the plug's ID is too big for the jack, you'll get no or intermittent connection. If it's an OEM AC adapter one assumes it's the right size, but if it's aftermarket, maybe not.

It depends if the jack itself is loose or if it's just loose inside the housing of the laptop itself, causing a flaky connection. If it's the jack itself then you need to replace it. If it's just the housing, then replacing the jack will NOT fix the problem unless you replace the entire molded plastic piece (palm rest). A simple fix when this happens is just using hot glue. Hot glue is non-conductive and is very easy to remove if you need to. Wrap the sides of the jack in electrical tape first so the hot glue doesn't seep into the jack itself from the sides.
