Installed a new hard drive installed win10 fall creators fresh install no audio devices showing under device manager, no missing drivers with exclamation marks.
Installed all chipset drivers, usb 3 including the realtek audio driver from asus website for the x555ua tried a pair of headphones in jack no sound either.
The customer said sound worked before any ideas?.
There are NO audio options in bios i also tried updating the bios still no sound also tried default setting bios save and exit.

Did the machine initially come with Win 7 or 8? Try disabling the driver installation through windows 10 and install the Audio driver for windows 8.1 from the Asus site. See if that works.. I had the EXACT issue the other week with Audio driver and Touchpad. damn thing worked after I changed the driver to 8.1

it is a current laptop shipped with windows 10 with windows 10 only drivers.

Laptop? Did you check to see if there are any function keys for controlling these missing functions? Also did you flash the BIOS?

Also, I hate to be 'that guy' - I had one of these x555a few weeks back for a reload and didn't have any outstanding issues with Sound or other hardware. I did use Snappy Driver Installer as opposed to the Website... maybe that could help?

tried that already did not help.
found the original driver pack Esupport folder that installs all the drivers on the old HD installing them now i have a feeling since it is so new it may need a chipset driver not on the website.

Before this was the sound working?

Did you look under System Devices for High Definition Audio Controller?

It's a 6th gen Intel so surely all the drivers would be on the website.

If you don't see High Definition Audio Controller under System Devices then sounds like the HD Audio Controller is toast.

there was a ribbon cable glued to top of hard drive with small card with usb and audio jack and card reader i tried to be careful i will take meter readings and see if there is a break.

or maybe not sitting good will try to reseat both ends.
did test usb and card reader both work.

Even W10 knows when devices are present and drivers not present. No bangs in DM, no missing drivers from what I have seen.

Like Mark said, on the bus-level, it's going to be seen if present. The only real quasi-requirement for 'stuff' to be seen could be chipset drivers, usually related to I2C or SPI, which is used for device enumeration and low level ops... even this would be uncommon IMO.

Taking a closer look seem sound chip is on the sata connector board look at this picture the whole sound subsystem including speakers the chip and ribbon cable that connects to head phone jack is connected to the sata board.
Maybe a bad connection between motherboard and sata board is causing the sound issue? it was causing issues with hard drive would vanish causing bsod in windows 10 till i cleaned the connector.
