Is it possible to boot a computer from a mobile phone?
I havn't tried it, was just wondering if it's possible.
Maybe boot from the SD card?

TIA

Thanks guys, it's an interesting idea. It would work like an IODD type device.
The links Adam posted above both refer to Drivedroid.

The drawback is that you must have a "rooted device" so that's a spanner in the works..:(

I'm wondering if it's possible to do it from a non rooted phone? Some more research is needed I think.

Update:
So I downloaded a custom firmware, rooted my phone (couldn't believe how easy that was!) and installed Droiddrive.
Trying to boot to Droiddrive from the phone (as instructed) failed. :(, just get a black screen...
Had to reset the computers BIOS and tried again.. failed with black screen. again. Reset BIOS.
Downloaded Mint 19 onto the phones SD Card and tried again...nothing but the black screen...
BIOS reset, boot computer, remove Droiddrive from phone, stick with IODD or USB flash drive :)

While it's not a phone per se I've set up a wireless modem with SD card to boot.

Linux and WinPE. The idea was a bootable anti-malware environment which you can do a live update to. Got linux working ok. While a stock PE will boot I cold not get the drivers installed. Tried to roll my own PE with the drivers installed but gave up.

Why even bother with the effort when you can get a stick PC for under 200$ if you need something super small and portable?

Haha.. No. It turns out the reason it wouldn't boot was because the motherboard was failing!
I managed to boot it up a couple of times from the phone but the mobo quit for good shortly after.
It actually does work though, I tried it on another machine and booted up fine, although very slow compared to IODD or USB.

Because iv'e already got the phone, it was an experiment, I dont think it would be practical on a day-to-day basis, and I learned something new - all for free.

An IODD makes booting computers very easy and it's much faster.

Sent telepathically from my BS-401XW space cloud hovering above Xanar while watching the Gnnars play hide and seek with the Kleers.

I've come across a few computers that won't boot from iODD but boot fine from a regular thumb drive.
So far I haven't had any that wouldn't boot from my IODD. quickly looks for some wood to touch...
Old habits die hard so I tend to use my 128GB Samsung key too often still.
