I had a computer today that was a real stumper. Everything ran great until I got to the log on screen. When I hit ctrl - alt - del it totally locked.

I tried the obvious stuff - winlogon - userinit etc - no love. A registry rollback didn't help either.

Finally I ran across this advice:

navigate to:
HKLM\System\Current Control Set\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
2. Double click on UpperFilters value
3. check if there is anything before or after "kbdclass" - if so, delete any data before or after that.

The UpperFilter value was:
TfKbMon
kbdclass
alidvc

I deleted the 1st and last item and the problem was solved?!?!?

Maybe someone else will need this.

Does anyone understand why this worked?
