Had a call recently from a customer running Outlook 2016 on a Win 10 Home desktop from Lenovo. He wanted to know how to change the default fonts. I directed him to the File > Options > Mail area, then got a call back saying this wouldn't work. Not only did the 'Stationery and Fonts' button not work, but clicking on it (or 'Signatures') froze the whole program and the only way out was to shut it down through Task Manager. I said I'd have a look next time I was over...which was today. I had exactly the same experience.
Here's what I've tried:
  • An in-situ repair via Internet.
  • Disabled all unnecessary add-ons.
  • Change the theme (a Google Search suggestion)
  • Destroy and recreate profile.
I've had zero luck. This isn't a huge deal, but this gent has a few disabilities and it would make life a lot easier if he could see what he was doing! If anyone has a solution, or some further suggestions, I'd be much obliged.

Solution
In case it helps, I found an answer to this. If you have the same experience and find that Microsoft
Desktop Apps is installed, get rid of it. Then, all is sweetness and light. Hope that helps someone.
Uninstall and reinstall. That, or if this guy has disabilities, have him call Microsoft Windows & Office Accessibility Support on (800) 936-5900, if he uses any sort of accessibility software, even Microsoft's high contrast themes, magnifier, or any of the built-in Ease of Access features.

Those who have disabilities and who need assistance related to accessibility can get it at no cost via Microsoft.

Thanks. His disabilities are being stone-deaf and 92, with all the frailties that usually connotes. Needless to say, he doesn't have a clue how Office 2016 got installed, or if he's got an MS account, or what the product key is etc etc.

Well, if Office 2016 is installed, and activated, you can call the folks I noted in your capacity as the tech working for him. Given what you've said, he'd qualify.

Also, you really can't move forward until you know the answers to the list of things you said he has no idea about.
