As a networking guy, I honestly hate Wireless. My biggest location has 739 Access Points. What I can tell you is is unreliable bollocks compared to wired.

For sure. Wifi seems to keep improving though. I have no problems with wireless links between buildings and such. But inside I want everything possible to be wired. Obviously can't for tablets and such.
Certainly for European electrical installations, provided there is a common point upstream of the two (or more) Powerline adapters, they generally work well, no matter what the site topography is like. For a domestic installation (OP says it's a house) they're cheap and quick enough to try, if only as a stop-gap measure.
