You will have noticed that I have a change in identity here on our forums.

This is because,

According to today's CNN in a story about symbols used by the Capitol insurrectionists:

"The "Kraken," a mammoth sea creature from Scandavian folklore, has turned into a meme in circles that believe the election was stolen. The Kraken, they say, is a cache of evidence that there was widespread fraud. On social media, QAnon conspiracy and fringe sites #ReleaseTheKraken has been widely shared along with false theories of fraud."

Now although as you all know I'm based in the UK, I don't want out forum to be in any way shape or form to have anything to do with the current situation in the US.

Thanks to @Computer Bloke for telling me about the CNN report.

I think that's over reacting a bit. I do understand terms change over time, but there's too much of "oh, someone might get offended" reactions going around on far too many things. It's my opinion that bowing to those demands allows others to take control.

The term Kraken is almost 800 years old. There's even a crypto named after it as well as a rum. I've seen it used many times as a homophone with a bit of double entendre mixed as in "get/git cracking/kraken".

Not sure what to say about the new avatar though......

Probably a good move.
As others have said, Kraken has been around forever, but given the current issues, people will assume the political Kraken at this current time.

A bit like being a big fan of Krav-Maga (martial arts), and having a username like MAGA. People are going to assume its the political one in these current times.

Its not a "Better say it this other way otherwise people will get offended".
I think it's more of a "As a Brit, I have no stake this battle. And don't want people to assume I support one side or the other. And as a representative of these forums, I don't want to bring that heat here either".
I support it and feel the same.
