LoL why are they surprised that nobody was doing backups is see it all the time i even warned a photographer to backup pictures in multiple locations she dropped the external backup hard drive at an odd angle it shattered a platter and fractured the others after bouncing down a flight of stairs.
I have warned multiple customers to backup another photographer he did not backup at all thought his pictures were safe one day while surfing the web he got hit by ransomware it encrypted everything.
No matter how hard i try they never seem to listen till it's too late what is odd i offer to backup for free the first time and show them how it is done.
Question why was the city data not in Controlled Folder Access folders???.
The price of SSD are expected to go down in next couple of months soon they will be cheaper than standard hard drives.

I no longer expect clients to do backups. They won't listen. One nearly lost everything, and paid $500 for recovery after being warned repeatedly. Result? Still using the external drive the data was recovered to. They just won't listen. So, I warn them, but I don't make an issue out of it. Wasting my breath.

I had a very similar conversation at a local golf cart dealer last week...

I asked who did their IT work, and they pointed at one of the guys working on the carts. So I asked who did their PCI compliance audits, and they looked at me like I was nuts.

So I looked at my wife and said let's go. She said, but I really like this cart... I said I don't care, I will not put our payment information through a that is blatantly not PCI complaint, and they didn't care enough about their clients to get proper IT support, they didn't care enough to earn my business.

The owner followed me out to my car, trying to change my mind as I went through the entire list of horrors. I flat told him, I hate owners like you. You think it'll never happen, until it does. Meanwhile this kid here in the back seat sometimes had to wonder where his next meal will come from, because people like you refuse to pay to do things correctly. Meanwhile, you're in an industry that caters to the elderly, they don't know any better, and yet they are the hardest hit by ID theft. Thanks, in large part to business owners like you. I left him a business card, and drove away.

I don't expect a call, they never do. Found a cart with another vendor up the road that didn't even use computers. Everything was on their phones, but it was safe. And now I don't use gas to get my kids to school

LMAO, at least the photographer is just a normal user not backing up data, these guys should know better being in IT, and working for the government to boot! The story said the guy who was the CIO worked for Intel in the sales department, and had no IT operations experience. Seems it was just a political hire or they probably saw Intel on his resume and thought he was a pro.

Also, when is the price of SSDs going to be the same as spinning HDDs? Is this true? If it is, this is awesome, where did you hear this? Does this also apply to NvMe SSDs aswell?
