I converted the machine successfully according to instructions provided to me by Samsung help. However, the ethernet controller, network controller, pci simple communications controller, sm bus controller and universal serial bus (USB) controller report errors in device manager. Samsung does not have a driver page available for this model since it is new.

Can this be worked around using Belarc and/or Everest to get the device details and using drivers from another Samsung machine?

The first thing you should be doing is contacting samsung. I would be very surprised if a phone call to their service department did not solve this issue straight away.

I'm not so sure about that. The problem I am having myself right now is that i just bought a new Quad Core Gateway for the platform, and downgraded via Windows 7 Ult Bootable Thumb Drive, and the same drivers are missing from mine. The problem that i am now running into is just showing that there are no compatible drivers. The laptop he purchased was MADE for windows 8, so the drivers are compatible with Windows 7. At least thats what im dealing with now too.

I contacted Samsung and this is their reply from the chat I had with them.

Seth: I have double checked with the information. I am truly sorry; the drivers for your laptop is not yet updated on the Samsung website as it is a latest model.
Seth: I can understand how annoying that would be as I am a consumer myself. I am truly sorry for the incovenience.
Seth: I am sorry for the typo*inconvenience.
Visitor: Do you have any estimate for when they will be available?
Seth: I apologize; as of now, we do not have the ETA about the model updation on the Samsung website; however, you can visit the Samsung website to check if the drivers are updated.

Same exact thing I got. Its like they know we are all tryimg to get out of windows 8

Using ven and dev I found that one of my devices is a PCIe GBE Ethernet Family Controller from Realtek.

Would it be safe to get a driver for this device from another Samsung laptop or do I even need a Samsung specific driver?

You are going to have to experiment.
I see this a lot when a new operating system comes out, often brand new hardware comes out and drivers are made only for the latest operating system (such as Windows 8 in this case)...and NO drivers will be developed for prior operating systems.

Sometimes spending incredible amounts of your time going on driver hunts, you may find similar or "close enough" drivers for Windows 7 from other models. You may find enough to get this laptop running...perhaps with only 1 or 2 or 3 thing sticking out in Device Manager, or perhaps you may get them all. Maybe it will run OK, or maybe, even if you get device manager looking good, it will act "quirky"...like not shutdown a few times a month, or have issues coming out of hibernation, or the occasional lockup. Because the hardware in this specific computer was designed from the start to be Windows 8 supported, and not by older OS's.

What you might try to fix this problem is to boot up a linux dvd like mint linux and then open up a term window and type in:

lspci -v

Find the manufactuer ID and the product ID and google them for the drivers if available for windows 7.

I have done this in the past and its worked but not on a brand new laptop with windows8.

coffee :)

Many of these systems are simply retreads of other existing systems. If you find out what chipsets are being used in Windows 8 and google for Windows 7 drivers before you do the downgrade you can often find all that you need. I've yet to find a system that I couldn't downgrade with some research.

I believe I solved the problem in my case. I asked Samsung support for a similar laptop that supports Windows 7 and they gave me the name of one. I went to the driver page for that laptop and downloaded the driver for the wireless lan and I copied it to a flash drive and copied it to the Samsung machine and it installed perfectly.

Once I had connectivity, I went to drivers on-line recommended by the pcidatabase and it found and has drivers for all my missing devices and better drivers for some of the existing drivers. So I believe that this problem has been solved.
