Dell Inspiron 5759 passes Windows 10 loading screen and immediately goes to a black screen (before the user login screen).

If you plug in an external display, it is continuing to load Windows and is 100% functional.

If you load Linux or Windows 10 as a Live CD, it is 100% functional. RAM has been tested and passes.

A fresh install on a fresh drive has the same bad behavior.

This is not a backlight issue.

All drivers have been updated and we've tried direct from Dell, direct from Intel, and have tried Snappy. BIOS has been flashed to latest build. Toggling FN-keys has no impact (but CAPS and NUM lock all work as expected).

We see others on the web that have encountered this and some have reported the Dell Click2Fix tool works (but we don't have this).

At a loss as to what to try next.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Had an almost identical situation about 3 weeks ago, but with a different Dell laptop model. Tried everything I could think of, including new N&P on a different HD, remove/re-install drivers, you name it I tried it. Laptop would go black just before the password prompt, but an external display showed that Windows was still working.

Your post said you flashed the BIOS and it didn't make a difference. But in our case, the BIOS upgrade fixed everything. (IIRC, the PC had A9 and the latest was V12).

Sounds like it's a video driver problem. Can you boot a Safe Mode with basic video? What about an older build of Windows 10?
