Is anyone aware of a way to bypass or remove the Dell system password? I have a customers' Dell Inspiron 1525 where they have forgotten the password. I planned on using kon-boot to resolve it, but I can't even reach the bios or boot to a cd or anything.

Removing the cmos battery doesn't clear it either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, technically you need to call dell to remove the password (a master can be generated from the service tag), and they'll do it if you prove ownership for free rather quickly.
However, depending on how trustworthy the client is and how strong your google-fu is, there is a generator floating around. :/

Thanks for your help. I was able to use some google magic as you suggested, and got the issue resolved. I just needed to know what to look for.

No problem. It took me days to find this info when I needed it (customer was on thin ice with company, let his kid play with company laptop and the kid set a bios password).

haha, mine was a similar situation. This was a laptop that is used for their business, but their kid kept using it. So they changed all the passwords, but couldn't remember what they changed it too.

What you need is the dellbiosboot.iso... You can search the web for it.
Burn it to a cd and change your pass. ;)

That is a fantastic iso to have but only if you can get past post. If there's a hdd or boot password, it doesn't work. The tool that I referred to is a generator that generates the unique backdoor password for dells. Dell has a backdoor password that is basically a hash of the service tag so you can safely go in and change or remove bios passwords.

new board

unfortunately i had a HP laptop that had a bios password and i couldnt crack it had to put a new motherboard in it in the end!!
