Desktop will not boot, what am I missing??

Some people scoff at the idea, but it's very possible that your "new" part isn't good.... as you've seen.

A new part isn't always a good part.
Of course, it is possible but I am not a big fan of coincidence. I still wonder if one his other components cooked his new motherboard. OTOH, It is also possible that particular motherboard might have a high failure rate. HPs famed DV series being the most well-known case of shoddy engineering but hardly the last.

I guess he didn't really specify, but it sounds like he transplanted the rest of the components from the old system to the new... so everything off that old motherboard. I've seen shorted CPU's and other such things kill boards that I knew to be working beforehand, so yeah I get what your saying. It's harder to know what the cause is when you don't know for sure that your new parts are good. It's a little rare, but getting "bad" new parts can drive you nuts.

"This is where a POST card comes in so usefull. I use a really cheap one, but it does the job."

Glad that the issue solved by another new mobo.

I have a video to show how to use the POST test card:

Hope this helps.
