Easy Transfer No More in W10

One problem both FAB, Zinstal and Lablink has in common is:
- They all more or less just copy over everything. Some work with domain accounts, some don't.

That is exactly where WET - Windows Easy transfer - was unique! WET utilized USMT - User State Migration Tool.
USMT is a highly specialized software capable of not only moving over files but also application and system settings, making version transitions.
fx office 20xx to Office 2016/2019 and Windows XP, Vista, 7 & 8 to Windows 10.
And it can join a moved profile to any AD users SID.

USMT is part of the MS Deployment universe and is still to this day kept up to date, with several annual releases, and is therefore by far the most capable tool for Windows user migrations.

I have for many years produced a professional GUI for USMT and when i was just about to stop making it, I got a swarm of requests to "please make a Windows 10 compatible edition, as Microsoft (MS) has stopped making WET.

Since then I completely rewrote USMTGUI wit a maintainence plan and set up a new web page. USMTGUI has been improved emencely since and maintained strictly, kept in sync with every update from MS.

And yes I do charge home users from $10.. But trust me, I still have my day job. This does take a lot of time but does not make me fat
The fee pays for software, website, release testing etc.

At the risk of being laughed at Easy Transfer worked great. 10 years ago. It's just a special roll of USMT. Fabs is awesome but zinstall can move many apps.

does zinstall really move apps? They actaully work? I have always been hesitant to try. This would be good in situations where the client dont have the disc or forget the the product key. That can be a real pain in the butt with older software.

Older more simple apps often does work after migration.
But as most software is tied to the CHID (Computer Hardware IDentity) the software will require the product key anyway, as it knows it's been moved...

Yes. But not all. As @Thomas Ehler mentioned some apps use CHID. Office is an example. I'm pretty sure that any modern version of a valuable program implements that. But other programs implement functions via drivers. Intuit products are an example as well as Wireshark if I remember correctly. Those, drivers, won't copy over either.

Fabs is horrible! It deletes client data and it’s systems files are always being deleted by defender.

I am going to say is the only "system" files that are deleted are the Nirsoft utilities that are downloaded for product key 's etc.
As for deleting client files, It might miss something because the files were not in default locations but it does not delete anything.
You need to manually look for file and folders in non-standard locations which is not the fault or job of the program.
I have never lost ANY client files using @fabs and I know to turn off ALL AV programs prior to use because they will delete prodkey from nirsoft.

It is unfair to blame a program for not knowing how to use it or for it's limitations. Read the included user manual.

I can truly say, Out of all the software I have ever purchased I use Fabs the most used and the best tool I have.
