One problem both FAB, Zinstal and Lablink has in common is:
- They all more or less just copy over everything. Some work with domain accounts, some don't.
That is exactly where WET - Windows Easy transfer - was unique! WET utilized USMT - User State Migration Tool.
USMT is a highly specialized software capable of not only moving over files but also application and system settings, making version transitions.
fx office 20xx to Office 2016/2019 and Windows XP, Vista, 7 & 8 to Windows 10.
And it can join a moved profile to any AD users SID.
USMT is part of the MS Deployment universe and is still to this day kept up to date, with several annual releases, and is therefore by far the most capable tool for Windows user migrations.
I have for many years produced a professional GUI for USMT and when i was just about to stop making it, I got a swarm of requests to "please make a Windows 10 compatible edition, as Microsoft (MS) has stopped making WET.
Since then I completely rewrote USMTGUI wit a maintainence plan and set up a new web page. USMTGUI has been improved emencely since and maintained strictly, kept in sync with every update from MS.
And yes I do charge home users from $10.. But trust me, I still have my day job. This does take a lot of time but does not make me fat
The fee pays for software, website, release testing etc.
